Background Info on the Art Museum 7/19/10

Today the students were responsible for researching the history of Art Museum in Philadelphia. Here are some of their findings:

Philadelphia art museum

My trip to the Philadelphia art museum was very fun I saw a lot of interesting things. One of the main things was the Schuylkill river. I saw all different types of trash in the water mainly old chip rappers and candy rappers. I'm glad that the people clean the water before we drink it and that the water goes through 9 different steps. Also I liked the train ride it was fun messing with Bibi an Shaniyah, but most of all I enjoyed the paintings at the museum were really good and I had a great time.

The Philadelphia Museum of Art
The Art Museum Of Philadelphia was built in 1876 . One of the reasons why the Philadelphia Museum of Art was built on a hill was to make sure people could see it from far away. Before the museum was built, it was just a regular hill which had the Fairmount Water Works facility. There were two architects responsible for the design of the museum, Julian Abele & Horace Trumbaur . The person that paid for the art museum was , Richard Scultz . The role that the museum plays in the experience of the Ben Franklin parkway is that, it shows the history of the artists in the past. Now the Philadelphia Art Museum has over 225000 pieces of art work.

Philadelphia Of Art Museum

The Philadelphia of Art Museum was built before the parkway, construction began in 1919, and it was finished in 1928. So, it was completed after the parkway.

I think before they built the museum it was just an empty hill, and they wanted people to be able to see the museum far away. But after researching I found out that the Fairmount Water Works was initially there.

Julian Abele was the architect for the Philadelphia of art museum. I think that people started visiting the museum and they paid for more art inside the museum and some of the staffs probably created some of there art.

It experience for people to see the different kinds of arts inside of the museum and the past art that people from the past has created.

The museum has more then 225,000 objects.

The Philadelphia Museum of Art

The Philadelphia Museum of Art was established in 1875. It was created before the parkway.

The Philadelphia’s Fairmount waterworks was there before the Art Museum.

The architects were Horace Trumbauer, Julian Abele, Clark Zantzinger and Charles Borie, they were inspired by Greek temples. Construction started in 1916, but there was not enough money to complete the whole building. The Perelman Building wings were completed first. That opened to the public in 1926.

The museum is one of the country’s largest museums and it has over 300,000 works of art.

The role that the museum plays is that it attracts tourists and people that are not familiar with Philadelphia’s Benjamin Franklin Parkway. That’s why it was placed in the center.
